2019 Tax Deadlines

With tax season in full swing and April 15 quickly approaching, we’re hoping to save our friends time, countless Google searching and confusion, and are including a quick guide on when payments are due to the IRS, outlined below.

If you’re a small business, it’s easy to assume that the IRS isn’t paying attention, but that is incorrect. Small businesses are being audited more now than ever before. Even if your company is not yet making a profit, you need to have the right process in place, so you don’t fall behind on your tax responsibilities.

If you have not yet hired a tax advisor, you are still responsible for these deadlines, outlined below. So be sure to stay on top of them (or give us a ring, and we’ll take it off your plate)!

2019 Tax Calendar
Worker Compensation Reporting

No matter the mix of your employees of both full-time and independent contractors, companies are required to withhold both federal and state income taxes from employee wages by the IRS. For independent contractors, your firm does not withhold taxes but instead, must report all payments. This report is submitted quarterly during the calendar year.
January 31, 2019 All employers are required to mail or email W-2 for all employees and to file that document with the IRS. You do not need to provide a W-2 for any independent contractors. Make yourself a note to send a copy of all employee’s W-2s to the IRS. Need help to determine which form to send, there are several 1099 vs. W-2 calculators available on the Internet.
February 15, 2019 All 1099s need to be issued to any independent contractors that received payments in 2018.
February 28, 2019 If you have any independent contractors that work for your business, this date is the deadline to file IRS Form 1096.
April 1, 2019 Electronic deadline for filing any 1099s is today.
